I used to play in that Building at the back in the early 1960s,the canal is on the oyher side.Mellings had the Railway then.
A Great set of Appley Bridge photos Dorothy, I used to drink in the Railway when Clair and Jimmy had it with Clairs brother Mick and I think Ruth Randall was living at the Post Office at that time.
Randalls had the Post Office when I lived at the shop on the bridge Mick.Good times it wasa proper village then.
Prior to the 60's, the pub was run by Mr and Mrs Ralph. They where there for many years, then took a pub at Newton le Willows, and retired to Standish.
It was the best pub in the village, my mother and father went in every Saturday and Sunday night. When i had finished playing or whatever, i would spend the rest of the night in the Ralphs living room watching TV and eating crisps and drinking Lemonade.
The Ralphs had two sons, Don and the other name escapes me.They were both sports car and motorbike enthusiasts, and i cannot remember clearly but i think they garage them in the old stables.
