Hi Joseph
what is puttees?
Comment by: Joseph on 9th June 2008 at 19:56
Hello Joy,Puttees were long strips of woollen material bound round the lower leg from ankle to knee and were intended to stop water and mud sloshing into boots and breeches. They were worse than useless; they cut off circulation when too tight because they shrank in the wet, and unwound when too loose, hampering movement.
my grandfather THOMAS WHITE served in the manchester regiment he was K.I.A ON the 6/11/1918 he lived in scholes how did find out the name . TOMMY

He is in the 5th Battalion. You can see the flash on his left shoulder.
