Hi Margaret,
Do you remember my Mum, Jeanette Lusher (nee Hardman)? She worked at Wigan TSB around this time.
Yes I do remember your mum Jennifer, Although we didn't work together for very long. I think your mum rose to the dizzy heights of Mr Bent's assistant in the Inspection Department.
Yes, I remember the uniforms!!We are outside what is now the Walkabout Bar.The only pubs in King Street at that time were the Shakespeare Hotel,(a favourite on a Friday after balancing cash, next door but one to the TSB)and the Derby Arms at the corner of King Street and Chapel Lane. Thanks for photos again,Margaret.
WOW!!! Seems like a lifetime ago. I remember most of the girls in the pic (especially you Margaret .......)and more besides. Pat Ellis - nee Smith, Joan Stretton, Alison Tatlock, Judith Clayton, Stella Richardson and I expect there's even more I've forgotten. D'ya remember working 9.00am to 9.00pm in November every year for the annual balance when the interest was added?? Then there was 'Mr. Bent's Academy' on a Monday evening. The days before computers when everything was fountain pens and ledger cards and all entries were done by hand - the staff would never cope with that today, I'm sure.
I worked at Wigan TSB at this time I remember Anne Bennett, she went on to train as a teacher at Chorley as did I and Lyn Worsley.
I rmember Mr Bent he was quite frightening and I never saw him smile ?
I remember Mr Bent at a football cup tie , Bolton v Liverpool , Bolton won, what a night! And boy did I see another side to Mr Bent !
Any of you girls know what became of Susan Preston?
Pity I banked at Barclays in those days! Bella senorinas!
I worked for Wigan TSB 1961/1971 and worked at branches Platt Bridge, Ince, Hindley, Parr(St.Helens) and King St.
Moved to Plymouth in 1971 and spent another 20 years in the South West.
Does anyone remember Peter Smith who worked at TSB in 1950s /1960s and what happened to him? I’m a teenage mate who would like to contact him.
