The alleged 'ghost house' at UpHolland, where strange events took place in 1904.
I remember speaking to elderly villagers in the 1970s, who remembered all the crowds congregating to watch for the 'ghost', and all the fuss and bother.
Many of them maintained it had been the work of practical joker(s), and the situation had been publicised and exploited by a local shopkeeper, who did very nicely out of selling the assembled crowds food and drink. Surprise surprise ...
The house used to stand where the White Lion car park is now.

I remember talk of a haunted house at Upholland, it was near the church. This talk was heard back in 1950/52. It was said things were thrown from shelves, cupboards opened & contents strewn about, typically poltergist activity....and who knows ?

Helen - by all accounts the poltergeists in question were a couple of young lads, or so their contemporaries told me.

Dr Alan Miller was my form master at UGS in the 1960s. He was passionate about local history and wrote an extensive piece about the Ghosts of Upholland. As far as I am aware it can still be downloaded from the internet!
