I remember as a kid in the 60's and 70's going to the baths and then going to the museum here, i loved it.
Happy Days even if we didn't have 2 Halfpennies to rub together.
that shop on the right when first built was called milbeths two sister used to run it , sold womens lingerie ,one of the sisters husbands owned it a mr watts an electrician who worked from the upstairs rooms and thats where i started serving my time as an apprentice electrician bout 1962. I've never been in the powell museum but could anyone tell me what happened to everything that was in there .
In the late 60's I found a really wonderful fossil on coal - possibly cannel - and took it in there . . . they liked it so much I let them keep it - wonder where it went?
I worked in the children's library here from 1980,until it was closed and demolished, and loved it. A beautiful old building and a lovely museum
I sometimes got sent over from the Central Library in Rodney Street to work in the Children's Library to cover for holidays or sickness. This was in the late 1970s to the mid 1980s. Lovely old building. Loved visiting the museum upstairs as well.
I also worked here occasionally and absolutely loved it! How Wigan's changed in the last thirty years.
