Stuart, I've always presumed Caroline Street,Wigan. I will have to confirm it with a local directory and get back to you.
Pure Wigan History.

Hi Barry, Love this photo.... I think this is my Great Great Grandfarther!? My Grandma (Evelyn) grew up at 11 School Street... Her mum was Annie Carlisle (was Carter) and my Grandma also had an Aunty Agnus and Uncle Thomas (Carter). My Grandad said the name Gomer was often mentioned so I don't think this is a coincidence!
The unknown baby would be my mum evelyn carter , gomer and Margaret's 3rd child.
my nan and grandad (Peggy and Bert Holland) owned this shop - i presume after the people in the photo - I have the gargoyles from St Thomas Church and the sign post from Hodson Street (where my grandad was born) in my back garden - my grandad collected these things when the area was being demolished
