Thank you Fred. My friend Janet still lives in the house next door to this.

Tricia, would that be the Janet who used to run the guides?

Comment by: Julie on 10th February 2008 at 19:05

I remember Janet who did the guides, with Miss Moore. Is it possible we are a similar age Elaine.

Yes Elayne
I have been friends with her since we were little girls and we still keep in touch.

I left Highfield in '73 Julie, to go to Marus Bridge Middle then on to the Deanery

Hi Elayne
I am obviously older than you but maybe you remember my brothers Alvan and Lyndon Bromilow, they both went to Marus Bridge and Deanery.

Tricia, something is intriguing me. You say that your relations lived in Melling Street What was the name of your mum and dad? I knew all the Athertons and smiths. My wife Edna Twigg went to school with Annie Hart. Annie's children are both on the school pics that I put in of Highfield St. Matthews

Hello Fred
Annie Hart is my mum's cousin. My family on that side are Hewitt/ Hart/ Winstanley, and before that my Gt Gt Grandmother was Elizabeth Hewitt nee Wood, born 1812 My mum was Alice Winstanley. I think my mum's eldest Brother Bill must be on the 1908 photo of Highfield school with your father. I remember your father , I think. He used to talk to My Gt Uncle Jack in front of the shop and Aunt Mary Heaton (nee Winstanley ) and my mum used to go across and chat with them on the way to Wigan on a Saturday. Uncle Jack once gave them some homemade wine.. but I think the least said about that the better! I am sure you must know all that side of my family as they lived there for generations. We moved back to 'the Delph' in 1956 as my Grandma had died the year before and my mum wanted to come 'home'. I went to St John's C of E at Pemberton but went to Church and Sunday School at Highfield with my friend Janet.
