Photograph of the New Town Hall c.1870. The upper portion which houses the council chamber, and a turret, a large stone badge portraying the original arms of George I. and a railed balcony from which many political speeches were delivered in the days of the old hustings. The ground floor was called the 'SHAMBLES' and was occupied entirely by butchers shops.
