The owl carved into the beam above the East window of St Wilfrid's Church.

Very interesting Rev. David. I read that if the claws are up it means good times for the Standish family and bad times if they are down. There is also one on a priests door, outside, on a modern panel.

An error on my part - the beam is actually at the East end of the nave roof, above the chancel steps.

Is the rat stealing bread, looks like it's holding a bagette? Any suggestions where I could research that.

In this one the owl seems to be looking skyward and asking ' Is it right that I do this ' ?
I wonder if this signifies some dilemma facing the family .
