I was initially thinking the photo was of the top of Sandy Lane with the Running Horses pub on St James' Road at the top, and with the wall on the right that the young lad is sitting on being the front garden wall of one of the stone cottages, but it isn't Sandy Lane nor is it Lodge Road with the what was the Station Hotel on Church Street at the top, it must have been taken around there somewhere, but so much has changed in the last ten to twenty years and the photos were taken 100 years ago.
St James Road, Cyril, at its junction with Mill Road, looking towards the Grapes junction.
The stone house on the left hand edge of the shot has been demolished in recent years, but apart from that the view hasn't changed much.
This is st James road Orrell the house behind the tree and the ribbens on the banner is 78 st James road.
My aunty's and cousins used to live there.
Thanks Mick LD and Karen, I'd looked along St James' Road on Google Street View too, but couldn't see any resemblance to the photo, I can see it now you've pointed out where the photographer was stood.
A couple of houses have just replaced the stone cottage at the top of Mill Road.
