I was at st cuthberts in 63 and 64 but cant place any of the faces sadly, does anyone remember mr murphy (headteacher) and mr mcardle? think he took junior 4 also miss lowe art teacher.
hi bingoma i was at st cuthberts in the 60s i remember mr murphy hes still alive sadly joe mcardle is no longer with us i was in mrs darwins class long time ago great memories
I KNEW DAVE, AS WELL AS HIS OTHER BROTHER
BEN JOHN, & STEPHEN.
I'm the miserable looking one at the front with arms crossed. Also in the line up, Kevin Swan, Billy Oakley, Sheila Oliver, Joan Moran, David Cunliffe, Joan Southworth, Linda McGuigan
I seem to recall a couple of the names here as I was at St Cuthberts during this time. My teacher was Mr. McArdle. I then went to St.Peters briefly, before returning to Rochdale.
Other names I recall from this time include; Peter Sutton, Paul Peet, John Funk and Dennis Liptrot.
There was a Dave Sutton too I recall.
Remember Mr Murphy very well , He was a good headmaster and well loved by all. fond memories of the man, and he was very kind. He is still alive, but now in a nursing home.
I remember Mary and Sheila and also Mrs Lowe who was a bit handy with her caning technique ! Would love to have a reunion !
I remember you well, Brendan. Somehow, I don't think Miss Lowe's caning technique would be allowed these days!
It is possible that the lad next to the end (left) top row is me.
I thought the boy on the top row, left, next to the end, was David Morris.
You could be right Mary. But I do have an abiding memory from that time of us standing at the top in our stockinged feet and slipping along the side worktops. We were not allowed to wear shoes on the tops. Also, I did look very much like that lad when I used to have red hair in those days.
I was at st. Cuthberts at this time but not in this photo and I remember jJohn Funk ,he changed his name to John Finch and had an older brother.i also remember the other names you mention ,Pete .Mary Conlon ,Christine Newton ,Marylin Brennan were some of my old classmates along with Kieth Jones ,Billy King and Steven Thomas ,to name but a few !!
I see what you mean, now, Pete. In fact, I think David Morris is right in the middle, to the left of Sheila Oliver. (Her left.) Christine, you've come up with names I'd completely forgotten. All very interesting!
I also remember a Dave Hitchen from around this time. I heard he went into the RAF some years ago.
I remember Christine Larkin and the names you mentioned I also remember the caning by Mr mcardle hated the man
I seem to recollect that Mr Mc Ardle went on holiday in 1965 to one of the Carolinas in the USA. I can't remember if it was North Carolina or South Carolina. But he told all his class at the time, me included, about his trip. A holiday like that, was so unusual at that time.
Mr Brendan Murphy M.B.E. passed away last week at the age of 96. His funeral was on Friday 12 August at St Mary's church, Standishgate, Wigan and he was interred at Our Lady and All Saints church, Lancaster Lane, Parbold.
This photo was taken in the old Annix .. two people from my class Jacqueline Banks the shepherd and Stephen the year was 1969... My mum died last year next door to Where Mr Murphy died in Haighfield Nursing Home..
