Nice to see my old photo turn up again, taken in the 1960’s, whilst waiting in the car for my girl friend at the time, to finish her shift at Timothy Whites.
Steve Mart - Subway is where the police station was.
Williams Deacons bank is now a bar, and Timothey Whites is the newsagents.
Steve - no, subway is on the corner where the police station was, nearest to the camera. RBS used to be where W&D bank was. It's now a cafe / wine bar called the old bank.
I used to leave my bike propped up outside there when I visited a relative across the road..well, it never got pinched.
Was Williams Deacons an independent bank as I've never heard of them?
I grew up in Pemberton and I only remember it as the Royal Bank of Scotland - this shop is now a coffee bar, like the old RBS site on Church Street in Orrell.
I also remember the Natwest on the opposite side of Ormskirk Road and of course the TSB that sadly closed it's doors in May this year.
My mum said there was a Halifax in Pemberton at one time, but I don't remember it.

CJAlan, Williams Deacons bank became Williams & Glyns bank in 1970, and became RBS in 1985.
The Halifax Building Society was just up the road on Chapel St. I think a 'Vape' shop occupies the premises now.
