There was another dress shop on that side as I remember a bit further up to the left. How smart those shops were at the time.
Wasn't the other dress shop Van Allen's, Veronica? I got my first platform shoes from Freeman, Hardy and Willis in 1972....they were yellow and I loved them!
I only remember another dress shop in 1961 when I left school Irene as Wilson’s. ( could be wrong though) I had visions of working there! But it was not to be as I ended up working at Aspinall’s Decorators on Market St. instead….at the time it was far too ‘posh’ for the likes of me… from Scholes! Or I thought so…;o))
I should have said Aspinall’s on Mesnes St not Market St.
I made a point of looking at the facade today. It’s over Vision Express as sturdy and attractive as ever. You can also see where part of the wall juts out.
The shoes I bought from FHW.
Please correct me if I am wrong but I think this building was demolished to for the main entrance to The Galleries. You can see the alleyway to the right that went through to Hope Street.
Vision Express is on the other side of the alleyway further down, it was probably Timpson’s at the time.
Another sad loss to our history as this was The Three Crowns.
