The yard looks like the setting for A Taste of Honey, a film from 1961 where Jo lived after being rejected by her mother.

A proper, Northern, gritty film.

I can honestly say I do remember vaguely these old shops on Crompton St. old empty shops at the time… there was a car park too after the bridge if I remember…

Looking at the roof I'm sure they were happy to have found new premises to move into, there's a massive dip near to the front, they'd have had to get the buckets in place at the sign of rain.
I only knew the Famous Army Stores being on Millgate where this shop had moved to, you could get some decent work and leisure clobber from there and unworn too if you checked before buying, and everything was in a whole lot better, fresher condition than you could ever get from Kays.

No idea of what the painted graffiti like sign means painted on the wall at the side of the window, the top character looks like how the Nazi SS wrote their S's, then below there looks to be a P and a R
