( Check out Robert Daglish Jnr) The photograph was taken from the side looking towards Frog lane However I am at a loss to find out who the chimney belonged to? My friend reckons it was Walkers, which did had a similar chimney. However the location doesn't match up to where the Walkers factory was. There is another building where I can just about make out '& SONS LTD' but again I don't know what this building was ??? Any suggestions?
Ron, the tall chimney on the left of the photo could be the one from the incinerator at the council cleansing department depot that was on Frog Lane.
Ron, I think your friend is correct with Pagefield ironworks chimney. The bridge is on a curve on the line and if you draw a tangent at the bridge it points to the chimney.
Yes you're right Cyril, it was on Frog Lane, the cleansing depot. My sister in laws house, is just up from this bridge, on Prescott Street.
Peter, I've just checked the railway line on a map, and there isn't a curve between the Prescot St. bridge and Walkers Engineering. I think that it is the Cleansing Dept chimney. Just need to find out what the building with the curved roof is? As I said I can make out '& SONS LTD'?
The tall chimney a pears to be on the site of G.KN.What ever was there before them had its own power station.
Ron, according to the maps from 1929 to 1954 that are included in this report for the land on which houses are being built along Frog Lane, see link.

as you can see Barley Brook Foundry was where Regentruck had their workshops so maybe this foundry could be the building with the writing on the gable.
Ron it was MESSRS. JOHN WOOD & SONS LTD., BARLEY BROOK, FOUNDRY & ENGINE WORKS, WIGAN who's name was on the gable of the building in the photo.

Isn't this the bridge on Miry Lane?
Also, there's a furnace chimney to the right of the big chimney which tells me it was a coal mine. I can't tell whether both chimneys we're from the same place.
Cyril, You've solved it<g> Yes looking at the writing I thought it said ?????WOOD & SON LTD I was beginning to think it wasn't the Bridge on Prescot street. but I'm now 100% certain it is. Thanks
Andy its the bridge on Prescot street where the vehicles keep getting stuck under.
You would be a good detective you Cyril .
