The 1898 OS map shows two schools in Parbold. One is on Parbold Hill at the side of Douglas CE church, so it won't be that one. The other one, which might be the Catholic school is on Alder Lane, on the right hand side, halfway between the canal bridge and the Stocks Tavern at the corner of Mill Lane. Google maps shows it as now gone, replaced with new housing.

Is the convent still in it’s location near to the bottom of Parbold Hill?. Went there on several occasions to visit Sister Christine, my wife’s, one time head mistress, at St John’s R.C. School, Wigan. Always made most, exceptionally welcome. The nuns’ had their own cemetery, in the convent grounds. Sister Christine is buried there.

The building - Lancaster House - is still there, Albert - but the nuns have put in for consent to redevelop the house and site as a Care Village. I thought I'd read that they'd moved out - so I don't know whether this recent Application means they will continue a presence there.

Thank you Reverend David. They did have a simple type of hospital in the convent. Sister Christine took Veronica, and I into it. One dear nun her, memory wasn’t as good has it had been. Sister Christine introduced me to her. I said. “ I am very pleased to meet you sister”. She replied. I am also very pleased to meet you to Father”. I didn’t know that I looked so Reverend, if that’s the right word for it.
