Ron, Is this picture taken from the Market Place, looking down Standishgate
The tram toward the top of the picture appears to me as though it has just
turned left from Crompton Street, and is about to head up Standishgate to
its terminus in the Market Place. Cheers, Ray.
Ray yes, your spot on The title should read VIEW FROM MARKET PLACE I think the photograph is taken from the top floor of Lowes or the Parish Church? So most of Market Place is out of shot.
Very good photo, the view in the distance is stunning. Thank you Ron.
Great photo.
Another time, another place,
Where once was, is not same space,
Things move on and changes hands,
Old to new, where once we stand,
Shadows, ghosts, a passing chill
shivers rise as memories will,
move through time and then look back,
memories stored in our souls we pack..
I could just fancy walking back in time for a while along those pavements. How wonderful that would be....it looks a lot more pleasant then than it is now.
I think this photograph was taken from Makinson's arcade with Haigh Hall in the distance. St Mary's and St John's RC churches can be seen, and also St Paul's I think that was a methodist or United Reformed church that closed years ago. This was before Marks and Spencers was built in 1931.
