Some interesting adverts on Lil`s corner shop. Up on the wall are adverts for Lemsip and Sunblest bread, and for the benefit of some
of the younger readers on Wigan Album, the " Esso Blue " sign on
the outside of the shop window means that the shop sold paraffin
to customers to fill up their Valor Oil Stove heaters, because back
then, central heating was very rare amongst working class people.
My parents used to send me to our local Chandlers shop with a
steel can about once a week to buy 1 gallon of Esso Blue. There was
also pink paraffin sold in other shops.
i think the shop on the left was a Ladies hairdressers, Before that it was O G Rushtons.
I think there is another shop just out of camera shot on the same side of the street where the mini is parked. I can see the sign sticking out from the building line - it looks like the old image of Lyons ice-cream.
The sign was a walkers brewery sign to the off licence, further this way was the post office,
