The car is D reg 1966 and not 1968. So if the car is new its got to be 1966.

Sorry should have said that the car was new to her. The picture was definitely taken in 1968.

Knew her well. Lived next door to her and we grew up together as teenagers.

If she bought it today it would still be a ''new car'' if i buy a 10 year old car from a dealer i would still say ''have you seen my new car?'' so yes, she is picking up her new car. Do people have nothing better to do than troll a photo section, stick to the forum.

What about Hillman? Their cars are british.

Hillman, at the time of that photo, was owned by Chrysler. The Hillman Avenger was produced in America as the Plymouth Cricket. Hillman was British, at one point, but taken over by American companies. Ford is an American company, operating over here, and always has been.
British companies, manufacturing overseas ,are still British companies producing a British product and income from it comes to Britain.
American companies, manufacturing in Britain, are American companies producing an American product and income from it goes to America..

Ford are an American car, made in Britain for the European market.
So are Chrysler, General Motors. Toyota and Nissan are a Japanese product, made in Britain for the European market, by a Japanese company. Profits go to Japan.

Hillman Avenger came out 1970. Not 1968.

James, Ford stopped assembling cars in the UK in 2002. Therefore a more accurate statement from you would have been: Ford are an American car, that WAS made in Britain for the European market.

Is that a roadster or a GT?. Either way they were complete rust buckets. I think they made over a million of them, and know doubt a huge chunk of them have long since rusted away and been scrapped. The good thing about MGBs is that they are still an affordable classic sports car that you can buy for less than 10 grand.
