Where on this photograph would the Pear Tree pub have been situated?.
The opposite way and further down on the same side Albert.
Albert, about 150 yards to the right of the photographer. The street you can see to the right has the Anvil Pub ( All Saints Tavern ) at the top on the right
Was that not a school at one time.My son said he did his O Level's in there when he was at The Deanery school..I don't remember it being a church.
This building wasn't a church, it was part of the Bluecoat school that closed down in the early 1980s. It is where the entrance to the bus station is now. There used to be terraced houses in Frog Lane and Richmond Street, being the nearest houses to the town centre. The only bus route along Frog Lane was the 25 later 625 to Beech Hill.
Thank you Mr X it says at the bottom of the photo church made way for bus station entrance.
Thank you Cyril/ WN1 Standisher. Together with my mates, I had many a pint in the Pear Tree. It had part of the branch of the pear tree which was situated where the pub was built. It was hanging in the bar. Many an enjoyable night was had in that pub, that was in the fifties. Jack, and Pat Ashcroft had the pub at that time. Lovely people.
This was the Bluecoat Primary School with the building to the left going up Hallgate the Junior School .The front of this faced down Richmond Street
