Frank did you take this one from your front window
Mick I took the picture from the front garden of the house I was born in at 84 Shevington Lane. Coach House Farm was owned by the Hilton family for many years, a lovely family of three sisters and a brother who used to let us watch television there in the 1950s when only well to do families had sets.
Was that farm opposite what was then Shevington Comprehensve?
No Linma thats Paradise farm, this on Shevington lane just before you can turn left onto Old lane
Frank; was/is Hiltons corner the jct of OLD LANE,CHURCH LANE & WIGAN RD ?
Yes Hiltons corner is were you say, the farm is named Club House Farm, because there used to be a golf course nearby
Is this on the corner of Shevington Lane and old lane where a large detatched house now stands?
To the right of the house and not seen in the photo was a barn. In around 1970 this was used by the builder (I think his name was Michael Lowe) who constructed the first 3 houses on Old Lane as you turn left onto it from Shevington lane and all the properties on Elnup Avenue. The barn and land was eventually sold and a detached house built on the plot.
Please can you help me to understand where White Hill Lane (White Houses) were near here. Henry Hilton was my great grandfather. The next address on the 1901 census is coach house farm cottage - is this nearby. Thank you
