The King Biily pub is the only building standing today. This was the old road before the new road that goes along Platt Street. There are are two shops here, a chemist, and the other appears to say Helens Florist. The bus is a Lancashire United Plaxton bodied Seddon RU, one of 50 new in 1970/71 WTD671-690H and DTC712-741J most were in service only 11 or 12 years until about 1981/82. It is on the 660 route to Warrington, but the 661 route to Earlestown was always a single decker because of a low railway bridge in Newton le Willows.

The other side of the road from the bus is where my two friends lives Tony and Eddie Wynn. Not seen them for yonks.

Interesting pic. I believe the road system through Platt Bridge was changed about 30 years ago with that present section of road being closed off. Most of the immediate area around central Platt Waz has changed completely since 1975 and sadly not for the better in my opinion.

I think you can still access a few shops down that road. Pooles, Handyman’s and a car spares I think. Droneys used to be on the bend at the top of the photo.

As a lad I remember a whole range of shops on Walthew Lane,including an Undertaker and a Pawn Broker!
