Tom it says ASHTON BROS.COLD STORE
Wonder if the couple and child sat in the rear of the chauffeured car is Mr & Mrs Turner and child.
Stretch limos are nothing new then, I'd imaging travelling to Blackpool in one of those would be great fun, you'd get everyone waving back with a surprised smile on their face.
Thanks ron
I believe there was a Ben Turner’s butchers, a few years ago, on the corner of Knowles Street, Lower Ince.
The original "sharra" - charabanc
I think the smaller building became Callands Kiddieland, the toy shop.
Anyone remember the location of Alsteads shop ?
Albert S, Ben Turner also had a shop in Scholes near to the then Scholes Conservative Club.
Derek. B It would seem that there was near enough has many butchers’ in Scholes, as there was pubs. I used to call in to Maggie Lewis’s for a cuppa, when on the Scholes beat,
Albert S. From what I remember there were multiples of every kind of shop in Scholes at one time, bakers, grocers, hardware, newsagents, butchers and greengrocers to name a few.
Correct. Derek.b
John, I'm not sure if Alsteads had a shop, they may have had one. My mother worked for them in the 1940's as a tailoress somewhere near the gasworks. My mother used to sew up the trousers and waistcoats that came from the cutter for bespoke mens suits.
Alstead had a shop in Woodcock Street. As I recall it somewhere between Market Street & the "old" arcade
Cyril, Ben Turner is the man standing just at the front of the car with the lighter coloured coat.
