Broken windows aside, a much prettier scene than that street presents today.
j j..oh so very true.
I a few times in the early sixties I attended Mass at St Joseph’s, before St Jude’s was completed at Goose Green, otherwise the Mass was in, as I remember it, a large wooded building, at the bottom of St Paul’s Avenue, where St Jude’s is now situated. If I remember correctly Father Tobin was the Parish Priest, at St Joseph’s, I could be wrong.
The fashions of the two ladies in this photo does support the theory this was the early 70s. I get the impression the housing along Caroline Street at this time was lying derelict and the houses are awaiting demolishion. I was born in the late 70s and as far back as I remember the Caroline Street area has never been a 'residential' part of town.
In the early fifties I went to a wedding reception, in the Vine Inn, after the wedding of one of my mates. He married a young lady from Wallgate, Agnes Sharkey, she had a sister Veronica.
Lived in Caroline st when I was a child in the 50 s lovely st then lovely people happy days
