Looks a lot better than today’s P-a-D
Wonder who drew the short straw to hoist the flag up the pole from that precarious ladder and platform on Lowes roof.
THANK YOU FRANK FOR A GREAT SET OF PHOTOGRAPHS,ALL, BRINGING BACK MEMORIES OF THE WIGAN WE ONCE KNEW.
This is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, the happy highways where I went and cannot come again.
Woochie Rook looks like a beached whale on the horizon.
The view from the parish church tower in 1982, and the high rise flats and maisonettes in Scholes can be seen. Further away is St George's school and the Wutchie hill in Aspull. The West Pennine moors are also visible and also buildings towards Bolton and Manchester. Woolworths will be around for two more years until closure in 1984. And there is Peter Lord shoe shop and Paige clothes shop. The underground toilets are at the front that were there also to 1984 or was it 1985. Four GMT buses are present, the first one is still in orange and white livery, and the other three in the new orange, brown and white, the rear one is the last batch of Wigan Corporation buses, NEK1-10K.
Just below top left, part of the Central Park Douglas stand can be seen just below and to the left of St George's School
