Is that Mrs Millard?
hi john yes it is mrs millard. do you know anyone on the photo
I was at pem primary 1956-1963 but I dont recognise anyone on this photo. The teacher of junior 3 was a Mr. Millard and if my memory serves me his first wife died and he maried one of the other teachers at the school and I think that her name was Miss Blackburn and she is probably the Mrs Millard that you see in the photo. I may be wrong about this. Mr Millard could have a terrible temper, he wore funny little glasses shaped like theepenny bits I always thought.
I was at Pemberton Primary Juniors from 1959 to 1963 (previously at St Mark's, Newtown infants. Teachers I remember were: Junior 1: Mrs Millard, Junior 2: Miss Moss, Junior 3: Mr Millard, Junior 4 Mr Martin. Mrs Moyle (extremely scary! was the headmistress. Don't recognise any of the kids in the photo though. Names I remember from same year as me were: Bobby Topping, Alan Maycock, Robert Hervey, Malcolm Knowles, Colin Long, Joseph Bithell, Carol Lucas and Sandra Atherton. Anyone remember more?

hi brian surely you must know some of the kids now ive put names to some of them .i was born in 51 but if your not on the photo maybe your birthday after sept.
hi john i think david long was on this picture im sure he was in same class as me but cant reconise hin m on the picture
Janice yes I was born after sept 1951 so this class was the year above me. Many of the names are familiar to me and I knew at least two of the class. Terry Coleman lived a few doors away from me on Norley and I knew Barry Goulding from working at plessy, we were both apprentices there in 1967
Hi John I must have been in the same class as you because the names you quoted certainly were. Some of the other classmates were, alan robinson, billy birchall, Kathleen bone, john don duncan, kevin and barry hughes (twins), keith ashall, clifford lee, graham kay, glenys ** , lynn brockhurst. I will try to think of some more. between us we might come up with a full set.
Hi Brian, I agree, we must have been in the same class but I'm sorry I don't remember your name - sounds like you don't remember mine either?. Thanks for coming back with more names - I remember them all except one or two. Keith Ashall was what we used to call 'cock of the school'. Was Harry Tudor in our class and one of the Cunliffes. I remember embarrasing Xmas parties where we had to bring in blocks of jelly and dance the twist - cringe-worthy for me! I remember debates about who was the best: Elvis or Cliff. Do you remember trips to the Lake District/Morecambe and in our final year to York? I subsequently went on to Wigan Grammar School and lost touch with everyone.
Hi John, the name cunliffe rings a bell but not harry tudor. I remember all of the names you quoted in your earlier post. I too lost touch with them all although I saw billy birchall a few times as we both became drummers. keith ashhall was a big lad but not agressive as I remember. I dont remember much about parties but I do remember going to york we all bought little sewing kits as presents for our mothers. I and a number of the other boys went on to pemberton boys school. Pem primary was demolished a couple of years ago.
Hi Brian and John, I was in the same class as you, do you remember me? Brian we mated around together for a while, doing a bit of music, my cousin Gwyneth and her mate Louise Webster also joined us. I have a few names from the class that you might remember, apologies if I get any wrong; Jim McAvoy, William Higham, Anne Beard, Glenys Walsh, Margaret Thompson, Susan Burgess and maybe Christine Stokes, there was also a lad called Stephen who lived on The Green, I can't remember his surname. I have a photograph of our class doing the Nativity play, I will upload it when I get the chance.
Hi Geoff how could I ever forget my first experiance of playing in a band and I do remember Gwyneth and Louis I think that at that time we were both in 4A at pem senior or it might have been before that. I would love to see a photo of our class at pem primary knowing my luck I won't be on it. I remember ony being in one nativity play and I played Joseph the inn keeper, I only had one line (no room at the inn) and I forgot that, and had to be prompted by Jesus (Robert Topping). Email me then we don't bore everyone else to death.
Sorry correction called for, the inn keeper was not Joseph, that was Jesus's father (Robert Topping) as I remember Jesus did not have a speaking part, he was too young.
Hi Geoff, yes I do remember your name, thanks for reminding me of all the other names as well. Brings back lots of memories. Do you know if any of the teachers are still alive? I used to like Mrs Millard, esp. when she read from the 'Faraway Tree'
Geoff, what happened to you after Pem primary?
Hi John, good to hear from you, after Pem Primary went to Pem Secondary Modern. Started work in print industry later joined the bobbies, retired a in 2006. Hope you are well, do you still live in Wigan.
John regarding Mrs Millard, a while ago I saw a newspapaer article about her, at the time she was living in Winstanley area, I don't know about any other of the teachers.
Hi Geoff, after Pem. primary I spent 14 years at Wigan Grammar and Liverpool Poly before getting married and getting a job in sales with Mars where I spent the next 28 years. Have lived 35 years in Hertfordshire and retired 5 years ago.

I spoke to dorothy recently and she said that she would like to contact irene. dorothy has a blog on wigan world under the name of 'dotty'

hi Alan was geoff duckworth, keith ashall graham kay ect in your year ? Did you go to Pem boys ?
yes i remember those names, and a few of the bullies jan
Hi Mrs Millard sorry about the mistake i never knew your first name was getting you mixed up with one of the girls whose nfirst name was Gwenneth. Did you take our class twice once before you married Mr Millard , what was your maiden name was it Burns. Will you remember the pantomime i have put a photo on of me and the one with the goblin Maureen Johnson was the same one, can you remember what it was called. Janice
I did attend the school in the 50's and my name was Gwynneth Richardson. However, my family moved to Beech Hill when I was 8, so I had left when this picture was taken. I remember Jean Thompson, we were quite friendly and I met her again at Wigan Girls' High School. I really enjoyed looking at all these old photos. I have a programme from those days of a play I was in- I'll send a copy of it in if I can locate it. Thanks for the memories.
Hi Jan, to be honest your face is the only one here that I really remember, apart from perhaps Jean Thompson's. We lived in Troutbeck Rise, so maybe you and I played together? So nice to be in touch with you, thanks.
Gwyneth Your name is familiar to me and I too lived on Troutbeck rise with my older sister Dorothy. I have a feeling that you lived next door to us. We were at number 5 What year did you come to Troutbeck and what year did you leave. I think you might have been at No 7 I was very young then so dont remember much about it. Did you have a brother
Hello all, Alan Maycock here. I reckon we've got 30 names from the year that left in 1963. I'm afraid I don't remember Carol Lucas and I thought it was Clifford Wall and Lynn Broxton (rather than Lee &Brockhurst). I'd forgotten the Hughes' twins entirely but I can still picture them now I've been reminded. The names I can add to the list are Judith Osborne who lived 7 doors along from me on Norley Hall Avenue and Susan Ruddy. There was a lad who joined us in Junior 3 called Bernard Avis. Reckon there's still 3 names we haven't come up with.
For the record I reckon my teachers were Mrs Bowker, Mrs Pedder, Miss Moss, Miss Burns who became Mrs Millard, Mr Millard & Mr Martin. There was one teacher who 'changed years' and taught us twice but I always thought it was Miss Moss.
Delighted to see Mrs. Millard on here! Remember me as Chang The Gardener? If I was a prince in a fairy tale & you were my princess, I'd buy you a bird in a gilded cage and bring you happiness. I can actually still sing it!! Morecambe & The Lakes by coach. (didn't someone break an arm?) & York by train in our final year. Biggest memory is the winter of 62/63. Snowed on Boxing Day and we still had ice slides in the playground in March.
I lived at number 3 Troutbeck Rise from the age of about 2. I have two sisters, one older, Joyce, and one younger who didn't go to Pemberton school as we moved when I was 8.
Hi Gwenneth it `s lovely to here from you .i remember you we probably did play together. i would be very grateful if you could send me a copy of the play it would be fantastic. Where you living now ? are you still in Wigan ? I was hoping Mrs Millard would get back in touch. I haven`t been on Wigan world for a while .like i said it`s good to be in touch from the school days. hope to hear from you .
Alan Maycock well I never! You and I went on to Wigan grammar ( along with Robert topping and Robert hervey I think). How long we're you at the grammar?
Although I was at this school 1953/1960 i remember a lot of your names. My younger brother was Robert Topping. He moved to Nottinghamshire, married and had four children but unfortunately died 3 weeks after his 40th birthday.
The girl who broke her arm in the Lakes was Kathleen Bone as we were walking up Loughrig Fell.
Hi mrs millard i got a bit confused with the names.it was lovely to hear from you .please leave more messages if you can.i`m sure lots of the people in your class would love to hear from you

I was in the same class as Lynette Topping and recently met with Stephen Jones and Bob Don-Duncan. Lynette are you still there?
Yes, still here. Remember you, Stephen and "bobby" Don-Duncan. Really enjoyed my time at Pemberton Primary and feel sorry for children that didn't. We had some really good teachers. Do you remember going to Mr Millard's house when we passed our 11 plus?
Wow how exciting to hear you're out there somewhere. Are you still in the Wigan area.? Its amazing to think back all those years. I can't see any photos of our class but I recognize all the teachers. Yes I do remember going to Mr Millard's and being shocked at seeing Miss Burns there.
Now live in Billinge with my second husband of 36 years. I do have a photo "somewhere " of a nativity play where I am sat on the steps leading up to the stage with the the children who were in the play. Must have been infant 1 or 2. Will have a root for it and put it on if I find it. How has life treated you Geoff? Remember you and Bob Duncan living opposite each other on Ormskirk Road and Jennifer Arkwright living not far away in Thorburn Road.
Great to hear from you Lynette. I now live in Silverdale after retiring as a Civil Engineer. I've got the same wife after 52 years. My parents left Ormskirk Rd and moved to Shevington but have now both died and are buried at Salem Church in Orrell. I often visit family in the Orrell/Pemberton area. We lived back to back with the Arkwrights. Others I remember are Joyce Barton, Stuart Taylor, Keith Carter and I even saw Jimmy Moss a few years ago in the Lock Shop at Orrell Post. We're getting on now but I have lots of happy memories - I hope you do too. Lots to say but ... not sure
