I suspect Thomas Cook was trading very well that year.
Sad for all it's workforce with no job.
It almost looks like a painting.
Thomas Cook sadly closed. Had some good holidays with them.7
Looked just as quiet this morning as then, walking to the bank, quite an eerie atmosphere. Daresay we will have to get used to it.
That wonky bollard on the right was probably caused by an Index delivery van getting jammed against it, I was working for them at the time and often had to guide the vans round the corner. I don't know how many bollards were knocked askew or even up rooted over the years.
Bring back old Wigan.
Before the big rollout of the Big Brother state with CCTV cameras there (allegedly) to protect us from the "terrorists", though I think there's one already in this photo. The amount of CCTV in town centres like this have quadrupled in number, its just shocking, where's the privacy. Yiu can't even have your haircut without a cameras recording you. The new bus station before it was (unnecessarily) rebuilt had barely any, now the whole place is crawling with them, they're on every bloody bus stand and all around the outside, it's like a prison. Even the staff now have a gated area where Joe public can't go and you aren't allowed to walk across.
