Wigan Album

There is a tenuous link between this photo and Wigan International Swimming Pool as mentioned in the Messageboard (general) recently. Wigan pool construction commenced in September 1963 with piling works starting in the October.(I was doing my ONC course in construction at the "old" Wigan Tech across the road from the site. One hell of a noise !! The contractor who built the pool was Wm.Eaves &Co.from Blackpool and in May 1964 they won the contract to build the Forton Services .McAlpines' etc were already constructing the roads, hardstanding areas and foundations for the structures.
