Barrie, your Dad must be a very clever man.
Maureen, dad served his apprenticeship as a body maker at the Wolverton railway works starting at 14 (1915) until he was 21 in 1922. He moved up to Wigan in March 1926 to work at Northern Counties in the body shop. After a couple of months, moved to Massey Bros in Pemberton and stayed for 10 years both on the shop floor and design office. During the war years he was at Santus Motor Bodies as a manager and body builder. He always said that he would not instruct a job to someone, unless he was able to do it as well by passing on the knowledge. I guess I followed him in that attitude throughout my working life and my son has the same attitude now.
He ended his working life at Walker Bros/Walmsleys in the drawing & estimating office. Building a car was his ambition during the mid 1950's when Kit cars were being put on the market. How my mother put up with sections of the body work/interior panels being made in the house I often wonder.I enjoyed helping him during my early life. I started my career a week after the car was on the road.
You must be very proud of him Barrie.
