This is Hall Lane near Haigh Hall and is a quiet rural area only a mile from Wigan town centre. The other Hall Lane is the road from Aspull to Hindley.
Love everything about this photo - beautiful stone cottages and stone flags, even with the grass between the flags! I wonder if the flags are still there. I would have sprayed with 'path clear'....I would have planted shrubs on the banking as well. Suppose they have by now.
Nope, still the same Veronica, all this was the Hampson empire (Malt works and Potter's) their son David lived in this cottage whilst Jeff and Annie lived in Haigh Cottage across the way, I say cottage it was more a mansion house.
Surprised the flags haven't been lifted during the he night! It happened to an old lady near me, every flag stolen. I love stone - if they were mine I would be swilling them and keeping them clean... They don't know how lucky they are some people.
The last time I was along there I hadn't noticed though they may well have been marked to prevent their theft, the stone flags along Sicklefield were cross marked with an angle grinder some years ago to stop those from being taken by the stone flag thieves.
There's nothing like stone flags after the rain they seem to sparkle. They don't stain or show the dirt either unlike concrete flags. I spend a fortune on stuff for cleaning mine. When you think stone paving was every where in days gone by...
