Sad end.
Good set of photos John.
I like this photo most of all. And perhaps the inclusion of just one broken locomotive in the photo emphasizes the sadness of the whole.
My previous post should have read 'the sadness of the whole image.
A very sad skeleton of the past.
On my demob from the R.A.F. In April, 1958. I worked at this wagon works for five weeks. I was twenty four, and was given the job of assisting two middle aged gentlemen in clearing a mountain of furnace ash, from one location to another location. Prior to joining the forces, I had worked down the pit, but after five years in the forces, the spade work played havoc with my hands, and back. The doctor wasn’t very sympathetic, her prescription (Dr Duffy). “More spade work will cure it”. At that time they were still breaking up wagons, not locomotives.
