Now, to go to Wakefield Trinity and beat them on their own ground, Belle Vue in the Challenge Cup, then draw a home crowd of over 22,000 in the next round was a massive achievement in those days. It was beyond rugby league's wildest dreams! A fairy tale come true! The Blackpool chairman at the time, Sir Frederick Emery could not believe it. All his enthusiasm and passion for the club, was passed down to his players. And it rubbed off on them. And this proves it.
A few Wiganers on this photo. Can anybody name them?
If anyone can name all of the people on the photo, you should be on mastermind!
That was some attendance for the Leigh cup-tie Ian. Dad took me to Bloomfield Road for the Blackpool v Tottenham Hotspur game in August 1960 ('Spur's double-winning season'), watched by a crowd of 27,656. Thanks.
I got the crowd wrong, Phillip. It was almost 21,000.
Spurs won the game 3-1.
Twenty two thousand has since been noticed elsewhere Ian. Yet shy of Twenty one' was, of course, also a massive achievement.
Jarvo's right with the Soccer scoreline.

The gentleman on the far right of the photograph is indeed a famous Wiganer. At the time he was Boroughs coach, but he is more notable for scoring the first ever rugby league try at Wembley in 1929.I know him more personally as a fantastic human being and grandad.
Middle Row sat down on the very right (below gents in suits) as you look at the photo is my grandad Peter Fearis.
