My auntie Joyce is in the middle of the front row, wearing a white top. My grand mother Beckett is on the right hand end holding my cousin Malcolm Cooke who is auntie Joyce's son.
The location is Tipping Street. The narrow entrance to Poolstock cricket club was between the two angled rows of terraced houses.
All very smartly dressed with their handbags and the perennial holiday shoes! Some wearing summer dresses, others 'costumes ' (suits) and light summer coats. Looking forward to the day out no doubt - everything but the kitchen sink in their bags and I bet some of them would be carrying another pair of shoes just in case of aching feet!
Excellent photo, very evocative of the age with their clothes, shoes and bags. All very smart ladies.
Wonderful photo! x.
What a lovely photo...one to treasure.
Is the lady 5th in from the left wearing Reebok Trainers?
I remember those canvas white pumps/shoes with a peep toe and laces. A bit more 'elegant' than trainers
I would kill for the lady's suit and ankle-strap shoes, 7th from left, for my forties events.
You've got to have some pity for the poor old Coach Drivers. Three coach loads of Wiggin Wimmin let loose for a day out in Blackpool! How scary is that?
DTease, you know very well that you love us.
Not in those days of the 50's Dtease those ladies were respectable you can tell with their clothes and handbags. They probably sang on the coach coming home but nothing rowdy I'm sure and I bet one of them went round with a hat for tips for the driver. They driver probably had a job on when they called at the chippy though!
You're right Maureen, couldn't do without you.
Bless you DTease.x
I think we should organise a coach for t'luminations this coming Autumn, Veronica, Maureen and D'Tease, (and invite Garry with his bottle of sherry!). All together now, on t'chara...."One man went to mow, went to mow a meadow.......". xx.
I know it sounds a bit churlish Irene, but couldn't we just invite Garry's sherry?
Well it would be rowdy with us lot - we'll have to invite some more of the gang ..but then again.....perhaps not....it'll all end up argy bargying! Hahaha!
And a bag of Garry's coal in case we break down!
