Following the article in the January 1959 edition of this loco, Frank kindly sent me this photo of it at John Pit. According to info on the back of photo, it was at John Pit August 1954.
I am sure this will bring back memories to some local people.

Great set of photos Barrie, I don't know much about this loco so I'll pass on this one.

Built by Nasmyth Wilson, Patricroft, in 1898 for the Wigan, Coal & Iron Company. It worked at John Pit from 1947 until 1958 and was then moved to Ince Moss where it stayed until 1963 when it was scrapped.

These are a great set of pics, a real change from HGVs.
Trains made our Country work. I've always been a believer, get HGVs off our roads and back on the rails again. Stop the rat-race and bottle-necks on our Motorways and Towns.

Agreed - it was the Road Haulage Association (RHA) who helped destroy the rail network in the 1960's - people always blame Beeching but with them and Tory transport minister Ernest Marples the whole network was under siege.
