It was with sadness that I heard the Frank Ryding died this week ,Frank worked for Sid Smith before taking the business into the Market Hall, he will be missed very much, the market will never be quite the same without him.
Great photos of a Bygone age.
I got my Sunny Smiles from there!
Bought my first John le Carré, 'The Spy who Came in from the Cold' there. 1964.
What a gentleman he will be missed.
Bad news, but thank you Thomas, i have spent many a ten minutes talking with Frank, a very pleasant lad, i shall call in the market and offer my condolences to his son.
I love the way staff on Frank Ryding's stall always put a little paper band around the customers' newspapers and magazines to save them getting mangled in shopping bags. Frank came into Boots once when I worked there and I was amazed at how small in height he was. Of course he was standing on an elevated step behind the Newsagent's stall and I had always thought he was tall! An absolute Gentleman. RIP, Frank. x.
I echo those sentiments by Thomas I didn't know of the death of Frank he was a lovely man and will be sadly missed
I never knew it as the little arcade the old arcade yes its proper name was the Market Arcade
It's sad these aren't clear photos.
