It is many years ago, since I was in this church. I was attending the funeral of my very good friend, Ronnie Williams, may he rest in peace. In his latter working life, he worked at Turner Bros., Hindley Green.
The gentleman you refer to Ronnie Williams, which dept, did he work in? I worked at T.B.A. from 1969 --1973 i started on the BIAS CUTTER, Then had a chance on the McNEEL Presse's just by the b/cutter, then i was transferred to rubber rings dept, under STAN MAWDSLEY ,I became C/HAND on the "EXTRUDER" NOT a bad job enjoyed it there i got married in 1971 they bought me a fantastic wedding gift, a few more i knew == JOHNNY BURNS,DICKIE TINSLEY, A JOCK KAVANAGH HE WAS A GOOD FRIEND. AS FOR ST.PETER'S MY DAUGHTER'S TWO CHILDREN WERE CHRISTENED THERE ALSO A LOVELY CHURCH.
St. Peter's has been celebrating it's 150th Anniversary this year and had some marriage registers and other memorabilia to view inside the church.
Albert I think I have said before I seem to remember Ronnie if he is the same gentleman he worked on the presses in the Rubber Rings Dept.
Trolley buses stopped running in hindley in 1956
Alan/V.B. I have no idea what department Ronnie worked in. I went to live in Kent in 1964. I do know he had a daughter that lived in Australia, and I believe in the late seventies, or early eighties, he went to have a holiday with her there. When he first got married, in the mid., to late fifties, he lived in the location, about half a mile, towards Hindley, from the railway bridge, after passing Ince Park. It was just one row of houses.
They was not trams, they were trolly busses, a big difference.
The wall around the church has one been lowered
