There was always a queue at Morgan's no matter what time or day. This market hall had an aroma all of its own, if you ever get to Durham call into their market hall, the aroma in there is very similar - it'll take you back, even has chirping sparrows.

I know what you mean, Cyril. There was a small branch of Woolworths in Hindley when I was little.....same dark wood counters and price-ticket holders as the bigger branch in Wigan, but Hindley had wooden floors and was a much quieter branch of the store. A few years ago, Peter and I visited Ludlow and walked into Woolworth's there and it was like stepping back in time! Same wooden floor as Hindley with the same sound as you walked on it, and such an old-fashioned air about it. I'm so glad we went in there before it closed for good. I have a dvd of Wigan Market Hall taken in its last days and it is fascinating!
