Childhood memories of some time sent in that Ward. At 3yrs old I had given myself a hernia in a pedal car, after the surgery I was in the far right steel barred cot, it was late at night and it was very stormy outside and thundering and lightning, I was scared to death screaming my head off, I pushed my hand down inside the dressing and scratched at the stitches until they all came out. They were not best pleased, had to bring the surgeon in the middle of the night, so after to re-stitch I was tied to the bars of the crib with bandages. Three yrs old and it is just like yesterday.
I too was a regular visitor in that ward in the 50's with a grumbling appendix. I laughed when you said they had to send for the doctor in the middle of the night to replace your stitches, you would probably have to wait until the following day today.
