Thanks to Trevor Smith( Smith's Book Shop) for the photograph.
Ron. Is that the Queen's Hall, shown in the background?.
Albert, yes it is the Queens Hall but nothing like you would remember it. Demolished to make way for the bus station Another of Wigan's magnificent buildings razed to the ground by the Good Old Council
Not entirely Ron, the facade is still there, etc.
Roy yes I know the facade and tower are still there but the magnificent auditorium has gone.
Many memories of the WGS Senior Speech Day held here. Some local notable would give a speech to us and hand out prizes. The other big event was the Annual Founders Day service which was held in the Parish Church. Both traditions now gone with the wind.
We'll be seeing cranes here again soon. Only in Wigan do they demolish a street with a cinema to build a shopping arcade, then, 30 odd years later demolish a shopping precinct to build among all things, a cinema !!
Society and trends change, I cant understand why people cannot accept this. This is not just in Wigan, it is happening in towns all across the country.
