The Kinnear family. Left to right, Roy Kinnear (1904 - 1942) joined Wigan RL as a centre three quarter in 1927 until 1933, played in the first Wembley final and scored a try. I believe he also worked as a car salesman for Timberlakes. He collapsed and died while playing rugby union with the RAF during World War II in 1942 age 38. Roy, his son (1934–1988) was born in Wigan and became a well known comedian and tv personality, better known for his appearances on “That Was the Week that Was”. He died as a result of a fall from a horse completing a stunt on a film, his wife is Carmel Cryan still appears in East Enders. Their son Rory Kinnear, (b.1978) is an actor and playwright who has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. He is best known for playing Bill Tanner in the James Bond films Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre.

My grandparents bought their house on Mesnes Road from the Kinnear family in the 1930s.

Oh well - now if I could only get to talk to my grandmother again! She's obviously led me wrong.

I am the illegitimate daughter of Roy Muir Kinnear. I am trying to gain information on my mother his partner, who was born in Wigan, and whose name was Evelyn, is there anyone who is still living who knew of her please?

1939 register - 29 September 1939 they were resident at 20 Hornby Road, Swinley. Elder Roy was an unemployed motor salesman. Also at no.20 were John & Gladys Durie and William Baron, a retired fish salesman. Sounds crampt to me. His steamship journey to S.Africa on 20/6/24 is recorded on Ancestry, presume for the Rugby tour?

Keith, it's quite some while since you first posted this tryptic of pictures, I am so glad you did and that I found it.
Rory Kinnear with a stella acting career behind him is currently staring in the Netflix series 'The Diplomat' in which he plays the British Prime Minister, Trowbridge. Superb series with brilliant acting, superb locations and a good story line. I highly recommend watching it.
I am unsure if Rory still has any connections with Wigan but cannot understand why is father Roy and and grandfather also Roy are not recognised in any way in the town as so many others like George Formby, Sir Ian McKellen and others are.
