Lovely photo. Is that a real monkey?
Were you in the Wigan Police Fred?. All of those Friday night dances were excellent nights for the price of the ticket. I cannot remember as to whether, or not, the Wigan Police dances were, dinner dances. I remember the Ince (Lancs. Const.) dances were.
Yes Henry it was a real monkey It belonged to the photographer I don't suppose it would be allowed these days. No Albert neither Fred nor myself were in the police force.
Thank you for the feed back, Anne.
I remember the Electricians Ball organized by the E.T.U being held at the Emp,always well attended !
Nice photo Anne.
Albert there's a picture of Wigan police ball in the Wigan Observer back in 1966, you may be able to recognize some of them. Item number 18246.
I hope you don't mind Anne.
I used to go to the Police ball..plumbers,electricians...talk about Uncle Tom Cobley. and all..I was never away from the Emp..I only stayed home Wednesday night, that was old folks night..the happiest days of my life were spent there...sigh.
The Wigan Police Ball was usually held on the last Wednesday in January each year at the Empress Ballroom (casino) and was a dinner dance. There were was also a dance usually held in October each year also at the emp. I was on the organising committee for both for a number of years in the early 1970s
I had a look at the photograph Colin. They seem to be a collection of Wigan dignitaries. I only recognized the Chief Constable.
gorgeous girl lucky man Fred,

Lovely photo of you and Fred Anne xx
my future wife had her photo taken with this monkey and it bit her it seems the monkey had more brains than I did
