Mr Cecil W. Eames. Manager of the Low Hall Colliery. Who was part of the rescue attempt after the Maypole Pit Disaster August 1908.
Below an extract from the Wigan Observer.
"Another attempt to bring out some of the dead from the Maypole Colliery was made this(Tuesday) morning i.e. 25th August. An exploring party consisting of:- Mr Henry Hall, His Majesty's Inspector of Mines; Mr John Knowles, Managing Director; Mr Arthur Rushton, Manager; and Mr C.W.Eames, Certified Manager. Along with:- Mr. Jesse Wallwork of the Bridgewater Trustees; and Messers. W. Picton, E. Nelson, T. Mitchell and other officials and a staff of workmen descended the Wigan Junction Colliery. A chain of communication from the Junction Pit was formed.The exploring party got through into the Maypole East Brow workings and actually within 400 yards of the Maypole No.2 Pit, when they had to return owing to the presence of gas"
