A very special place in the hearts of Wiganers, from the days when Wigan had character and didn't look like everywhere else. So glad I saw it in those days.

Remember the chap with the weighing machine, on the left hand side, at the top.

Was it Smiths who sold the Train Spotting Books can't remember.

Aww Roy..my beloved Michael..how are you Roy..fine I hope...re the little arcade,how I loved going there as a child and also me and my Mam went to Gorners Cafe every Saturday for our dinner...Mr Smith and my Mams dad were pals,and Mr Smith told me that in the thirties both he and my Mams dad hitchhiked to London to look for work..he was a lovely man and so was his Son..I 'd give anything to go back for a day just to say hello to everyone...memories..

Sorry I have repeated myself with the Leg O' man picture. So many paintings!!!

My correction as well..it should have read 'Mams Brother' not her Dad.

I bought this and the policeman on traffic duty at the top of Library St as prints from Smiths some years ago. They remind me of life in Wigan during my teens. Fond memories.

the only time I went in the arcade to gorners café was after a visit to the dentist when my Mam knew I couldn't eat anything but it was still a treat .we were easily pleased in those days but happier

Bought my first John le Carré novel from there: guess about 1963 'The Spy Who Came In From The Cold'.

Very happy memories of walking this arcade. Always thought the little brother or sister (lets not get sexist) to Makinsons Arcade. Bags of shops as I recall.
