According to "Cherry and White" website (history of Wigan RLFC) this match was in 1949 not 1948. It finished 5-4 to Wigan which made the aggregate score 16-16. A replay was arranged at a neutral ground, Swinton, but it was then discovered that the referee should have played extra-time, so this match was declared "void" and was replayed a week later, Wigan winning 10-4. I must admit I didn't know any of this until I looked on the Cherry and White website which is a mine of information and a wonderful piece of work.
By the way Ron, you put this on last year! and I made a similar comment to the one above.
I thought I had put it on the site before but couldn't see it so I uploaded it again..
I think I recognise these players, from left Jimmy Ledgard, then Charlie Pawsey wearing his usual skull cap and Ben Coffe. Largely hidden behind Ben is I think Albert (Nebby) Cleworth and finally long time Leigh servant, Peter Riley emerging from the tunnel.
