When I was a kid in the 1950s Allen Bros of New Springs had a few of these old type Bedford's, I thought they were so big and loved each little ride up and down the site where they were working. Along with watching Fred Rose 8 wheelers I became fascinated with lorries, so much so that I spent 49 years of my working life in transport. My last trip before retirement was with a Scania 44 tonner delivering into Hull, a different beast to this little truck. Strangely though, having been retired since December 2010 I have never missed that M62 once. Thanks Keith for this great picture, the only place you will see this type of truck still working for a living is Malta - though fewer of them each year.
Alan Brothers from New Springs ran Thames Trader tippers, the worked on the Slag tips at Ince in the 1960s. Blue cabs they were.
My Dad & his brother had a fleet of these Bedford's on bulk coal deliveries in the late 40's/50's& 60's. They where all x army trucks driver & passenger seat were actually on top of the batteries!!
