There's no Telegraph poles dotted along the railway embankment, which I find odd in the 60s.
Is this photo looking towards Wigan?

I think the Sixties is the period when a lot of the overhead open wires (telegraph lines) are being replaced by PVC insulated, poly-sheathed, cables carried in trackside concrete conduit.

priscus ,yes it made it easier for the copper thieves.
