It looks very much like Mesnes ST.The car park was adjacent to what was Whelans.
It's the end of Mesnes Street, these shops were demolished in the mid 80's when the ring road was built.
Yes definitely New Market Street end of Mesnes Street. Grimshaw and Cunliffe's dairy used to stand on where that car park is shown. When I was in the Poluce this junction was known by that name.
Pete, Grimshaw and Culshaws , I think was the name. In the 40.s They delivered with 4 wheeled horse drawn carts' quite a number of them.
Does anyone remember a mitchelin-man figure that used to be perched on one of these shop fronts (I think it was Oliver Somers')?
Everything to the left of the white drainpipe was pulled down, the rest is still there
Didn't the Oliver Somers Cycle shop used to be Tome Hughes = of the Autumn Tints Cycling Club fame ?
It looks like Stan Somers bike shop, his brother Walter had the sports shop at the other end of the same road.Stan moved from a shop on Market St to there in the 60s or early 70s.
