Yes it's next to the Rabbit Rocks not the Rockes. I'm an Incer so it's Rabbit Rocks Scholes Malc. Apart from the Water tank on the loop line, there were two Signals as well. This line came from Kirkless.
I don't originate from Wigan Garry, but I know where the ' rabbit rocks ' are. Purely for my information therefore, whereabouts, in relation to the rabbit rocks are ' the Rockies ' situated? And do they still exist? Cheers mate.
Well done Scholes Malc what a great reminder of our childhood. I have flattened many an old penny on those lines below The Rockies, especially near the steel bridge over the canal.
Hope you have more like this.
Garry's right, RABBIT ROCKS NOT ROCKIES.
They exist Eddie minus the railway track.
Not my neck of the woods, but what a dangerous line that looks. At least in Pemberton we had a signalman to oversee any kids crossing at Winstanley Coll Crossing (the brooke). It would be interesting to know if any fatalities occurred on what looks like a dodgy bit of railway...Hope not.
O.k. then, just to clarify, I'm getting the impression here that ' the Rockies ' and ' rabbit rocks ' are one and the same place but with two different names depending upon, either personal choice, or whichever part of Ince a person happens to come from. Would that summary be accurate?.............Anyone?
Eddie, They are called the rabbit rocks, but people who don't live in Ince call them rockies. We Incer's have always know them by the word Rabbit Rocks so that name stands. All the best Eddie.
ALWAYS known by us in Scholes as 'The Rockies', and rightly so - I have been going up there over fifty years and have never ever seen a sight of Bugs Bunny let alone of his droppings!
Well you've not looked so far, it's full of Rabbits up there even today. Merry Christmas Scholes Malc, good photo.
Always called it new slaggie?
