Good old workhorse
I know some old timers like me think these open back buses were cold and draughty. I still say that as little boys in the 1950's /60's we used to scramble to get on the front seat to see out that inset left hand front widow, as it was one of THE great treats. simple pleasures meant so much then.
Eddie. Travelled a few miles on these buses, when a Borough bobby, stood up on the back platform.
My brother may have been your driver Albert as he drove for Wigan Corporation from about 1958 up until they introduced one man operation in the early 70's. My sister in law could also have been the conductress.
From the registration and the radiator mountings the old dear is pre-war 1938/9
In September 2014 its then owner, Paul Williams, was offering it for sale:

Eddie. A great friend of mine was a conductor in the early sixties, Alex Hewitt. He passed away in the early nineties. May he R.I.P.
This is a 1940 Leyland Titan TD7 with Leyland bodywork. This bus served Wigan until December 1954 and was then sold to an operator in Nottinghamshire until 1962. It then worked for a contractor and was finally saved for preservation in 1969. This picture loks like it was taken at Burscough Airfield where the Mersey & calder Preservation Society stored some of their vehicles.
You're definitely on the money with regard to the location Stuart, the photo was taken at Burscough.
