Postcard - not used postally - but there is a message on the back - a chap inviting his Daisy to climb up, and roll back down....

Rivington is a favourite place of ours..we climbed up here about five years ago..keep saying we'll do
it again..I don't know if I'll have the puff now though.

It used to be a big thing to walk up here on Good Friday. One year (1968?) a group of us walked from Wigan town centre to the top. We managed to walk back to Aspull (where a friend lived for tea , but then had to get the bus back we were so shattered. I also remember there use to be open air Methodist youth meetings on the moor with a service in an old quarry following a Midnight walk across the moors. Seems really bizarre and almost unbelievable now but that's what teenagers once did even though we were then in the pub the next day.

About 20 years ago me and my Wife Betty did Rivington Pike and Peel Tower in Ramsbottom on the same day .Get out of breath now just thinking about it.

I went up Rivington Pike yesteday with my son. Inbetween the rain there was bright sunshine and views as far as Manchester, Liverpool Anglican cathedral and Blackpool tower. I haven't been up there since I was a teenager and it brought back lots of memories!

Graham..if you go again..keep your eyes open for the two llamas in the big field just before the School.

Summer, 1967: We biked (push) it up there one sunny Saturday in June. There were four of us. I carried a water bottle that was filled with Coca-Cola and Tango Orange. We actually carried the bikes up halfway, and tied them to a tree. We climbed the summit and came back down; the bikes were intact. I remember passing through Scholes on the way back to Pemberton in the early afternoon at speed...Innocent days in the summer of 1967 and memories treasured.
